What a 503A compounding pharmacy actually is

'Compounded' sometimes gets mistaken for 'off-label' or 'unregulated.' Neither is true. A 503A compounding pharmacy is a state-licensed facility that prepares medications for individual patients based on a valid prescription from a licensed provider.
The regulatory picture
503A pharmacies operate under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and state boards of pharmacy. They follow USP standards for sterile and non-sterile compounding and are inspected accordingly.
Why we use one
